Daryl Wilson, 58, is the man who will succeed premiership coach Corey Carver as senior non playing coach on a two-year deal.
He was appointed last week.
Wilson is a highly respected successful and experienced non playing coach known for his ability to produce premiership sides.
Raised in Colbinabbin, he has coached or played in premiership sides in the Heathcote, Bendigo and North Central Leagues, claiming three flags in four years when coaching the Strathfieldsaye club in the Bendigo League.
He last coached last year, when he led Calder United to the flag in the North Central Football League.
He has kept his finger on the pulse with work with the Bendigo Pioneers this season.
Wilson was on a short list to coach Kyabram in 2024, but took the coaching position with Nullawil Football Club which had made the move from the Golden Rivers League to the North Central League.
Wilson said he could not wait to get back to familiar territory where he has a strong family background.
He is the son of former Kyabram girl, the late Margaret Forbes, and the grandson of the late Clare Forbes, a stalwart and life member of the club.
Margaret’s late brothers Stan and Geoff both played with the Bombers, and Stan, known as Bub, was a member of the 1958 Kyabram premiership side.
One of Darryl’s sons, Jordan, is married to Elyse, the sister of Kyabram’s veteran star defender Jason Morgan.
Bendigo based Wilson will commute to Kyabram for the Tuesday and Thursday training sessions and said he would start training for the 2027 season in December.
He said he was a great believer in nurturing young players.
Kyabram Football Netball Club president John Guinan said his club was delighted to get Wilson on board.
