Playing at home against Castlemaine Goldfields FC Gold, the Border Raiders put three past the opposition while preserving their clean sheet in a dominant team performance.
The hosts could have had even more after creating good opportunities throughout the 90 minutes, but Castlemaine was still clinging to hope at half-time, with only John Mana’s 36th-minute opener separating the sides at the break.
The score stayed 1-0 until just past the hour mark, when Jean-Claude Herman doubled the Border Raiders’ advantage, before Mana capped the win with his second 14 minutes from time.
Putting three past one of the league’s leading defences marked a strong result for the Border Raiders, as Castlemaine had only conceded six times in as many games before the weekend.
The four-match winning run has put the Border Raiders (6-1-1) within a point of league leader Swan Hill.
The competition is on a break this long weekend, with the Border Raiders returning to the pitch, at home against Deniliquin on June 13, also the club’s ladies’ day.
The club’s women’s squad, which had the bye at the weekend, will host Spring Gully.
The side dropped to third (4-1-1) after its week off, sitting two points off the top of the ladder.
