After sitting out week one with the bye, the Flames battled local rival Tongala at Tonny, the host coming off a 35-run win over Echuca South in round one.
Winning the toss, the home side went in to bat first, and although it lost opener Ryan Smith without score, looked in a good position after captain Alex Williams joined Jayden Tucker for a 55-run stand.
Tucker would make 21 and Williams an innings-high 39, but there wasn’t enough runs to be found down the order, Fire Brigade’s Robert Salter running through the tail, including featuring in a run out as Tongala was bowled out for 124 short of its 50 overs.
Captain Salter finished with a team best and efficient 3-15 from 9.4 overs.
The Flames would approach the chase with purpose, running down the target in 25.3 overs, just more than half their allotted time at the crease.
Miller Griffiths led the way with a hard-working 53 unbeaten from 79 that featured only four boundaries, while Cooper Fawcett helped finish the job with 20 not out.
Four Tongala bowlers took a single wicket each, Adam Nunn the most economical going at 3.33 an over for his 1-20.
Other winners in the round were Moama over Nondies, Echuca defeated Echuca South and Leitchville-Gunbower rolled Bamawm-Lockington.
Tongala hosts Echuca on Saturday, while Fire Brigade heads to ladder leader and reigning premier Moama.
