The reigning B Reserve netball premier, Seymour is once again well poised to make it to the last day of the season, having accounted for Benalla in a third versus sixth clash at the weekend to advance to a second semi-final this Saturday.
The Lions proved too strong for the Saints in the first elimination final, racing to a 14-5 lead by quarter time, which soon turned into a 25-13 half-time advantage, as they piled on the scoreboard pressure.
A ruthless third term extended the margin to 17 goals by the final change, before the Lions capped a brutal showing in the final term to win 46-28, progressing to the second week with relative ease.
Chloe Locke was named best on court in the win, shooting 26 of the Lions’ 46 goals, closely followed by Taylah Mason, who was instrumental through the midcourt, and sister Sophie Locke, who proved rock solid in the defensive circle.
Seymour will now play minor premier Shepparton United in the second semi-final on Saturday at Kings Park as it attempts to book the first spot in the 2026 B Reserve grand final, with the first centre pass set for 11.45am.
The Lions also have another reigning premier still in contention, with the reserves footballers claiming a solid victory in their elimination final against Rochester at the weekend to ensure their season continues.
Trailing 2.2 (14) to 2.3 (15) at quarter time on Saturday, the Lions hit back strongly in the second term, keeping the Tigers scoreless while adding 3.2 of their own to open a 19-point lead at half time.
It was further extended by the final change, with the Lions booting 2.1 in the third term to Rochester’s 1.2, heading into the fourth quarter with an even four-goal advantage.
The Tigers fought back fiercely in the final term, outscoring the Lions, but Seymour did more than enough to emerge victorious by 14 points, the 9.7 (61) to 7.5 (47) victory spearheaded by three goals to Jack Radford and two to Jackson Mansfield, while Sam Thomson was named best afield in the win.
It sets up a brilliant first semi-final this Saturday, too, with the Lions to do battle with Kyabram in a grand final rematch from last season at 11.45am at Kings Park, with the loser handed an early exit while the winner will play in a preliminary final.
The B grade netball side will also take to the court at Kings Park, having dominated its first elimination final against Shepparton United to win 53-36.
A slender one-goal advantage at the first break was quickly made five goals by half time, before the relentless nature of the Lions’ game broke the contest wide open in the second half, blowing the margin out to 13 goals at the final change, and 17 at the final siren, in what was a brilliant first finals hitout.
The B grade side will now face Echuca at 1pm at Kings Park on Saturday, needing a win to continue on in season 2026.
The under-17 side also played a first elimination final on Saturday at Tatura, going down 25-33 to Shepparton Swans, bringing its season to a close.
With the three lower-grade sides joining the A grade netball side in playing on into week two of the finals, it sets up a huge Saturday at Kings Park, with the home crowd set to provide plenty of encouragement as the Lions continue to battle towards grand final berths.
