Skipper of the winning side, Edward (Ed) Newman, captained the St Kilda team to a premiership win over Melbourne Cricket Club.
It completed back-to-back flag wins for the St KiIda, side which Ed has captained for the last three years.
In fact, he has now played in three Premier League premiership sides, being a member of Dandenong’s flag winning side as a 17-year-old when he won the batting average.
In his latest triumph, he was awarded the John Scholes Medal as player of the final after scoring 69 in the match.
He made 779 runs for the season at an average of 43.38 with a high score of 125.
Ed is the grandson of well-known Kyabram couple Alan and Iris Gibbon and the son of their daughter Dianne and son-in-law Andrew.
Alan and Iris follow Ed’s career closely and are justifiably proud of his achievements.

My story in these columns last week on sports people wishing to be only known as ‘Private Player’ raised an interesting observation from a reader and keen Kyabram footy fan.
He made the point that if every player decided to go under the name of Private Player, radio broadcasts of games would be very monotonous, boring and a nightmare for commentators.
‘Private Player’, who led the GVL goal kicking list with 12 goals in the opening two rounds, was named as Will Hogan on the team sheet and kicked two goals in Mansfield’s loss to Benalla on Saturday.

Weekend Goulburn Valley League results have added more intrigue to the competition and just which side is flag favourite.
Previously winless Benalla made a statement when it accounted for Mansfield, who beat Rochester by 100 points in the second round but has dropped its last two games, while Mooroopna had to battle hard to shake off another improver, Shepparton United.
Both the unbeaten sides, Shepparton and Echuca, went on their winning ways and even at this early stage of the season look the best two teams in the competition.
These two sides clash in round eight on May 30 and the winner is likely to earn the tag as outright premiership favourite.
