The Tigers scored an impressive win over one of the quality sides from 2025.
The Lakers were within the top two for most of last season, dropping to third in the final round and crashing out of the finals, and Rushworth had their handle in round two of the new campaign, picking up the win 47-32.
The Tigers lead the competition in its early stages on percentage, only defending premier Shepparton East joining them at 2-0.
Rushworth has piled on 20 more goals than the reigning champion, while the sides have been equally effective defensively.
Lancaster v Shepparton East
Lancaster fell to the reigning premier in round two.
The Eagles had too much quality for the Wombats in a competitive, low-scoring contest.
Lancaster did well to hold the premier to 38 goals, but the East defence proved even more stifling at Lancaster Recreation Reserve, the Wombats managing only 23.
Shepp East is lurking around the top of the table, while Lancaster returns to the middle of the pack for now with a 1-1 record.
Tallygaroopna v Merrigum
The game of the round saw the Bulldogs on the road at Tallygaroopna Recreation Reserve in a clash between mid-table sides from 2025.
The Redlegs were the higher finishers last season, but the two sides had to share the honours this time around as the clock expired with scores level at 35 goals apiece.
After an opening day victory, the share of the points sees the Bulldogs up to third, while Tallygaroopna sits in 10th at 0-1-1.
Violet Town v Girgarre
Girgarre has had a tough start to 2026.
The Kangaroos are off to a rocky start to the 2026 campaign after making the grand final last season.
Girgarre has now dropped its opening two fixtures, falling to Violet Town in round two 41-32.
The Roos sit third from the bottom at this early stage, while Violet Town advances into a crowded mid-table with the win.
Undera v Avenel
The Lions stayed winless to start the season, as Avenel was victorious in its trip to Undera Recreation Reserve.
Undera fought to stay in the game, but the Swans were able to pull away and record a 42-28 victory.
The Lions are off to an 0-2 start, while this was Avenel’s first action of the season after an opening round bye.
The remaining result from round two saw Murchison-Toolamba get the best of Longwood 32-23, while Stanhope had the bye.
Much of the league will be on a bye over the upcoming Anzac Day weekend, with only two fixtures scheduled.
Nagambie will host Stanhope and Murchison-Toolamba will travel to Avenel, with both matches to be held on Sunday.
