Former Ukrainian ambassador to US under investigation

Olha Stefanishyna, who recently stepped down as Ukraine's ambassador to the United States, is under investigation by Ukrainian anti-corruption officials, local media reports say.

According to the reports, the anti-corruption court is considering whether to impose restrictions on the former deputy prime minister.

No details of the specific allegations have yet been made public.

Stefanishyna served as Ukraine's ambassador to the US until last week.

Reports that she might resign in mid-July marked the beginning of a major government reshuffle initiated by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

According to media reports, Stefanishyna's mother purchased an apartment in central Kyiv during 2022, the first year of Russia's full-scale invasion, at a price well below market value.

At the time, Stefanishyna was serving as deputy prime minister and justice minister.

She has repeatedly denied allegations of corruption.

Despite years of reform efforts, Ukraine continues to be seen by Transparency International as one of the most corrupt countries in Europe.
